MORE New Testing Equipment
Updated: December 2006
Our new instrument for visual fields testing has been a very useful addition to our office. We have been able to acquire the Zeiss Matrix for evaluating the entire visual field of our patients. The Matrix is the newest release in fields testing. It will reveal loss of vision in peripheral areas of the retina, as well as loss of macular sensitivity.
How will it help?
It reveals problems of the retina as they begin, and laser treatment can resolve the problem before it gets worse.
Who is it for?
All patients who have diabetes, hypertension, and macular dystrophy as well as anyone with vision complaints uncorrected by glasses.
Is it age specific?
No, but anyone over 60 should certainly get a baseline test even if complaint free.
Is it a tedious test?
No. The time limit is 5 minutes per eye. The older instruments took 30 minutes per eye and truly were tedious!
Added in 2005 Were:

Equipment that will make your eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions quicker to determine. It automatically tests your eyes for your proper correction and is both quick and accurate. It takes only a minute per eye, giving us a reliable answer which we then verify by having you look through the lenses to actually try out the prescription. Hopefully it will save our patients time and energy trying to decide if lens number one or lens number two is better. It will be helpful to children by not requiring their answers to be precise, and for handicapped patients who might not easily manage the exam chair.

Our second new device measures corneal thickness and is very useful for glaucoma detection. As you may know, the thickness of the cornea must be determined to know the significance of the pressure on the glaucoma test. A thick cornea will show a higher eye pressure than is truly there because of it's resistance. A thin cornea shows the opposite. This test will make your glaucoma test more accurate.

Our third piece of equipment is a new microscope with digital imaging. For those patients with a medical condition such as cataracts, floaters, retinal degeneration we will be able to capture an image of it, show it to the patient and forward it to another doctor. It will be excellent for evaluating healthy conditions, as well as monitoring progressive changes that may be occuring.
We are excited to have these capabilities and look forward to being able to provide the very best care possible for our patients!
And last, but not least: If you are aware of anyone who needs an exam or glasses but is financially strapped, we will meet their needs. Please refer them to us, we will be happy to serve them.
